Most people are aware of the fact that bingo players have a language that represents every number and also the kind of game being played. For example there are several ways to win in bingo so the title may describe what is needed to win; for instance a blackout game is when every number must be marked off to win instead of just one line etc.
There are also different bonuses which may occur in games. For example there is a bonus called the money ball which is picked before the game and if that number is included in the winning claim then the prize is doubled. Every ball that can be called at bingo has an alias. These aren’t important to know as every number is displayed as it is called, however a basic knowledge would be useful. Below are a few of my favourite names for numbers;

- 44 is known as droopy drawers
- 55 is snakes alive
- 69 is your place or mine

Generally in the history of bingo these nicknames haven’t been changed and players were aware of the language they would hear. However, since the massive surge in popularity of online bingo a new language has emerged. This is the language of the online bingochat rooms. Bingo players are chatting while playing and to save time they are using a similar communication to other chat rooms. There has been an emergence of new bingo related phrases which in turn have evolved into some specific online bingo etiquette ‘rules’ being created. If you decide to play online bingo and chat to fellow players you should be aware of the rules;

- Begin each conversation with a polite greeting
- Avoid offensive language
- Don’t write all text in capitals as this may be seen as shouting and some may take offensive

Most of the language and rules are common sense and if you wish to chat while playing just be aware not to offend people as it may lead to you being removed from chat rooms or even removed from the website.
